Elderly woman, aide killed in Dhanmodi flat
An elderly woman and her female domestic aide were murdered in their flat at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Friday.
The deceased were Afroza Begum Moni, 65, and her house help Diti, 19. Afroza, from Mymensingh, was the mother-in-law of Kazi Monir Uddin Tarim, deputy managing director of garment conglomerate Creative Group, police said.
Dhanmondi police station officer-in-charge Md Abdul Latif said on information from the six-storied house they rushed the spot in the evening and found throat slit bodies of two women in separate rooms of a third floor flat of Lobelia, house 21 on road 15 of Dhanmondi.
Residents of the building said Afroza was owner of two flats– one in the third floor and the other on the fourth floor. She mostly used to stay with her son-in-law and daughter on the fourth floor flat, they said.
They said Afroza and Diti came to the third floor to meet a new house help at about 4:45pm.
As she did not return back to the fourth floor, relatives came to the third floor at about 7:00pm, found the flat’s door open and the bodies were lying in two rooms of the flat and found none other there.
They said the relatives then informed it to police.
Relatives said some gold ornament and an iphone set were missing from the flat.
The Dhanmondi OC said they assumed that they might have been slaughtered with sharp weapon.
The police official, referring to circumstantial evidences, said they might have been killed anytime in the afternoon.
The motive of the murder could not be known immediately, he said.
The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post mortem examination.
Police said they collected the CCTV footage from the house. The crime scene unit of Criminal Investigation Department also collected evidence from the place of occurrence.
