Protesters at Pabna university want VC to go

Students of Pabna University of Science and Technology on Saturday continued demonstrations for the fifth consecutive day, besieging the vice-chancellor’s house demanding removal of the vice-chancellor, the proctor and the student adviser for their reported involvement in recruitment scam.

Amid the demonstrations on the fifth day, vice-chancellor M Rostom Ali convened an urgent meeting at his official residence with the administrative and departmental heads to find out a way to appease the students and solve the crisis.

On October 29, students began demonstrations as three teachers of the university were served cause notices for their Facebook comments on a reportedly leaked audio conversation which went viral on social media websites on October 24.

In the audio clip, jobseeker Monirul Islam was reportedly heard to ask vice-chancellor to pay back Tk 8 lakh the former bribed the latter to get him a job.

Vice-chancellor told reporters that he did not take any bribe from anybody and the whole matter was nothing but a conspiracy.
