Rooppur Scam ACC summons 29 PWD engineers, 4 RNPP officials
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday summoned 29 engineers of Public Works Department and four officials of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project for interrogation over the alleged irregularities in procurement at Green City Housing Project for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
The 29 PWD engineers include suspended Green City Housing Project director and PWD executive engineer Masudur Rahman.
The four RNPP officials are the project director Shawkat Akbar, deputy project director M Hasinur Rahman and deputy assistant engineers M Mahbubur Rahman and M Mehidi Hasan.
The commission deputy director M Nasir Uddin sent the notice to the people asking them to appear at the commission head office to face interrogation.
The commission would interrogate 28 people on November 6, 7, 11 and 12, and the remaining five would be interrogated on on November 13, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
On October 17, the commission formed a committee to probe alleged irregularities in procurement at Green City Housing Project for the RNPP.
The commission said there was an allegation that former Public Works Department executive engineer at Pabna Masudur Rahman and other were involved in purchase electric stoves, electric kettles, room cleaners, TV sets, refrigerators, pillows and washing machines, at astonishing high price to furnish apartments for the Russian engineers and officials of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
According to the allegation, each of the pillow cost Tk 5,957 with additional lifting cost of Tk 760. Each electric stove cost Tk 7,747 with the additional lifting cost of Tk 6,650.
The bill for each electric kettle was shown at Tk 5,313 with the additional lifting cost of Tk 2,945. The PWD billed Tk 12,018 for each room cleaner and the additional lifting cost of Tk 6,650.
Each electric iron cost Tk 4,154 with the additional lifting cost of Tk 2,945.
Each television set cost Tk 86,970 and the additional lifting cost of Tk 7,698.
Each refrigerator reportedly cost Tk 94,250 and its lifting cost was Tk 12,521.
In May, PWD withdrew its executive engineer Masudur Rahman stationed at Pabna over the irregularities of supply work in the housing.
Amid severe criticism, prime minister Sheikh Hasina in June said the man involved in alleged irregularities in purchasing pillows and other household appliances for RNPP housing project once belonged to Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
The BNP claimed Masadur was never involved with Chhatra Dal.
