Mashiur apologises for comment on Noor Hossain

Jatiya Party secretary general Mashiur Rahman Ranga on Tuesday apologised for his derogative remarks on Shaheed  Noor Hossain and withdrew it in the face of severe criticism from all sections of the society.

In a statement sent to the media, Mashiur apologised  to Noor Hossain’s mother Marium Bibi for hurting her while addressing a November 10 meeting and requested her to consider his comments as ‘slip of tongue that happened out of restlessness’.

Mashiur also stated that he became a bit furious during the November 10 meeting as political parties, while observing the day as Noor Hossain Day, make abusive remarks about the late Jatiya Party founder HM Ershad.

Noor Hossain’s family, Juba League and several other organisations on Monday organised separate programmes demanding Mashiur should apologise to the nation for terming Noor Hossain, who embraced martyrdom for democracy during autocratic rule of Ershad, as a drug addict.

Addressing a November 10 meeting, which the party observes as democracy day, Mashiur said Juba League activist Noor Hossain used to take Yaba and Phensidyl.
