‘PBCP activist’ killed in Jhenidah ‘gun battle’
A suspected leader of an outlawed party was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Battola area in Harinakundu municipality area early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Badsha Sheikh, 50, son of Helal Uddin of village Jora Pukuria in Jhenaidah and a member of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP — Janajuddha faction).
Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Harinakundu police station, said that tipped off that Badsha was attending a clandestine meeting with his followers in the area a patrol team of police raided the area at about 1:30am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Badsha and his followers opened fire at police, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
After the gunfight, police recovered the body of Badsha from the spot while others managed to escape the scene, the OC added. The body was taken to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
A pistol, four bullets and two daggers were recovered from the spot, OC said, adding that at least seven cases were pending against Badsha.
