Rangamati shooting victims not party activists, says PCJSS

Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti in a statement said the three ethnic minority people killed in Rangamati on Monday were neither their activists nor involved with any armed group.

The regional political party accused ‘Arakan Liberation Party’ of abducting and killing of Noyapara village chief Monaram Tanchangya, 55, and his son Sukramani Tanchangya, and another.

The ALP is also known locally as ‘Mogh Liberation Party’.

The statement read  an armed group of ALP entered into the Noapara village of Rajvila union of Bandarban sadar on Monday morning and finally detained four including Monaram and his son and took them to Balumura in Rajshtali of Rangamati.

Of the four, the assailants killed three in the evening and the media quoting police in Rangamati and Rajasthali reported it was infighting between factions of the PCJSS, the statement added.

‘The killed people are not the members of Jana Samhati Samiti and they are not involved in any armed activity,’ the statement read.

Rangamati police superintendent Alamgir Kabir told New Age over phone that they got names of those persons killed on Monday but those were not verified as yet.

Asked about Arakan Liberation Party, the Alamgir said as investigation was on, it was premature to comment at this stage.

He said they have recovered a locally made gun but seized empty cartridges of submachine gun.

At least three people were found dead in remote area of Rajasthali in Rangamati on Monday evening.

The police said the victims were associated with Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti.

United News of Bangladesh had reported from Rangamati that the three people were shot dead during a ‘gunfight’ between two factions of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti over establishing control on the area.

It quoted Rajasthali police officer-in-charge Mafzal Ahmed Khan where he said that the ‘gunfight’ between the two JSS groups started at about 5:00pm in remote Balumura Marmapara area and continued for one and half an hour.
