Fazle Shams made JL chairman, Mainul GS
Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil were made ruling Awami League-backed youth body Awami Juba League chairman and general secretary respectively for a three-year term at its seventh congress in Dhaka on Saturday.
Fazle Shams is son of Juba League founding chairman Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni and Mainul Hossain was the president of Dhaka city north unit Juba League.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader made the announcement at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh as the second session of the congress was held there while the first session of was held at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Quader said that Fazle Shams Parash was elected Juba League chairman unopposed and Mainul Hossain Khan was elected general secretary from several candidates.
Party leaders said that Fazle Shams Parash, also brother of AL lawmaker Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, was picked for the Juba League leadership although he never held any position of the organisation to cover the recent controversy over top Juba League leadership.

Fazle Shams is an academician and teaches at a private university for the past 10 years. He recently agreed to join Juba League.
In the congress, names of seven Juba League leaders were proposed as general secretary candidates, insiders said.
The seven leaders are— Mainul, Mohiudding Ahmed Mohi, Belal Hossain, Subrata Pal, Manjurul Alam Shaheen, Iqbal Mahmud and Badiul Alam.
Later, Mainul Hossain was selected form the candidates as per suggestion of the Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Obaidul said Mainul would resign from his post of Dhaka North City Unit president on Saturday.
In his instant reaction, Fazle Shams said he would work to restore the image of Juba League as he want to work as an activist of Juba League, not as chairman.
He said he would carry out his responsibility honestly to change the political culture.
Controversies triggered over Juba League after several of its leaders allegedly involved in illegal casinos and other money making ways.
On October 20, Juba League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury was removed from his position for his alleged involvement in irregularities. On October 3, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit sought details of all bank accounts held by Faruk.
Several Juba League leaders were arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion for their alleged involvement in illegal casino operations in the capital as the force launched drives against such illegal activities on September 18.
On October 6, Juba League’s Dhaka south unit’s president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat and vice-president Enamul Haque Arman were suspended from their posts hours after they were arrested by the RAB in Cumilla.
The same day, the authorities slapped a ban on foreign travel by Faruk. After the ban he was not seen in any political programme, said party activists.
Sheikh Mujib’s nephew Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni formed Juba League on November 11, 1972 and was the first chairman of the organisation.
