Rubaiyat Killing Friend to be quizzed for 4 days as protests on
A Dhaka court on Sunday granted investigators four days to question Abdur Rahman Saikat, a friend of Stamford University student Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa who was found dead in Dhaka on Wednesday night.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mamunur Rashid delivered the order after police placed Abdur Rahman, a former student of Stamford University, to his court with a plea for seven days to question him in police custody.
He was arrested by Detective Branch members on Friday night, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman.
Ramna police station officer-in-charge Manirul Islam said that the case filed by Ramna police sub-inspector Abul Khayer was transferred to DB for investigation in the meantime.
Police suspect that Saikat had a connection with the unnatural death of Rubaiyat Sharmin, daughter of a police inspector.

The Ramna police on Wednesday found the body of Rubaiya, 21, a second year student of English at Stamford University, between two high-rises at Siddheshwari area, just opposite to Criminal Investigation Department headquarters.
Immediately, her body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination as an unidentified body. Later her family members identified the body as Rubaiya, daughter of Rokan Uddin, an inspector of the police posted in Habiganganj.
Rubaiya used to live with her family at Shantibagh in the capital.
Dhaka Medical College forensic department head Sohel Mahmud said the victim fell from height and died.
Students from different educational institutions in Dhaka formed a human chain at Shahbag in the capital demanding justice for Rumpa.
The demonstrating student alleged the victim might be killed after she was raped.
Police said after post-mortem examination report they could be sure about many things of the incident.
