AL to have no assistant secretary, advisory council to expand

The ruling Awami League has prepared a proposal for amendments to its constitution to be placed before its council session seeking abolishment of the post of assistant secretary for its subcommittees and expansion the size of its advisory council from 41 to 51.

The party central working committee meeting at Ganabhavan with its president Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister, in the chair finalised the proposal, several members attending the meeting said.

They said that the structure of the 81-member central committee would remain unchanged.

The amendment proposal also proposed inclusion of Awami Matsajibi League as an associate body in the party constitution, they said.

They said that the meeting was postponed till Friday as the 21st council session of the party would begin on Friday.

Besides, the party also approved its declaration bringing some changes by inducting guideline for ‘Mujib Year’ and ‘celebration of fifty years of Bangladesh’, they said.

The party also formed an election commission for electing new leadership in the second session of the council to be held on December 21 at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh.

Incumbent member of advisory council Yusuf Hossain Humayun will lead the commission while advisers Saidur Rahman Khan and prime minister’s economic affairs adviser Moshiur Rahman will assist him.

Chief of the eleven subcommittees for election preparatory committee have submitted their report on their preparation, sources said.

A report on Awami League’s last three years activities including facing natural disasters, Rohingya Crisis and the latest national election in 2018 were submitted.

The party also decided to hold council sessions of all expired district units before beginning of ‘Mujib Year’ in 2020.
