New Awami League Committee 7 ministers out, 2 new faces in
A number of ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers are not on the newly declared Awami League central committee though they held vital posts in the outgoing committee while two new faces have been included in it.
Of the leaders dropped, commerce minister Tipu Munshi was the secretary for finance, housing and public works minister SM Rezaul Karim for legal affairs, religious affairs minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for religious affairs, and state minister for women and children affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira for women affairs.
The other portfolio holders not making it to the new body are state minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury , deputy minister of water resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and deputy minister of education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, who were organising secretaries in the outgoing committee.
Besides, outgoing committee treasurer HN Ashiqur Rahman, information and research secretary Afzal Hossain, commerce and industries secretary Abdus Sattar, labour and manpower affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, organising secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj and deputy publicity secretary Aminul Islam are also absent in the new committee.
On the other hand, former shipping minister and labour leader Shajahan Khan and former state minister for women and children affairs Meher Afroze Chumki, who did not hold any position in the previous committee, have been inducted into the new committee as presidium member and women affairs secretary respectively.
Two joint secretaries in the previous committee, Jahangir Kabir Nanok and Abdur Rahman, have also been promoted as presidium members in the new committee while deputy office secretary Biplab Barua has been promoted as office secretary and executive member Nazibullah Hiru as law affairs secretary.
Executive members SM Kamal Hossain and Mirza Azam were made organising secretaries in the new committee.
After Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader were re-elected the party president and general secretary on Saturday she announced the names of 11 of the 34 secretaries for the new committee.
The names of 28 executive members would be announced later, she said at the Institutions of Engineers, Bangladesh where the 21st AL council session was held.
None has been elected to the posts of treasurer, finance secretary, labour and manpower affairs secretary, religious affairs secretary, commerce and industries secretary, three organising secretaries, deputy publicity secretary and deputy office secretary.
