More areas flooded, Bhola-Lakshmipur ferry suspended

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre on Monday forecasts deterioration in flood situation as major rivers continue to swell.
The FFWC found water levels at 52 points across the country have risen in the past 24 hours while water levels receded at 33 points, and at 15 points waters are flowing above danger levels, says a FFWC bulletin.
Reports from Sirajganj said river Jamuna is flowing 62 centimeter above danger mark on Monday noon and it rose by 16 cenitmetre in past 24 hours.
At least 23 unions of Kajipur, Belkuchi, Chauhali were submerged by flood water creating huge suffering to 11,00,000 residents of these areas.
Water development board engineer at Sirajganj Syed Hsan Imam said the rising trend of Jamuna is likely to continue till Tuesday.
The Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Ganges-Padma river systems are showing rising trend which is likely to continue for 72 hours while the Surma-Kushiyara is expected to fall in next 48 hours, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
The flood situation in Kurigram, Gaibandha,Naogaon, Bogra, Sirajganj, Pabna, Jamalpur,Tangail, Faridpur, Shariatpur, Rajbari and Munshiganj may deteriorate and that in Sunamganj and Netrakona are likely to improve. But Satkhira flood situation may remain steady, said the bulletin.
At Kaunia 79mm rainfall was recorded, 77mm was recorded at Sylhet, 72mm at Sunamganj, 66mm at Sheola, 59mm at Kanaighat and 60mm at Khulna during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile in Bhola authorities suspended ferry service on Bhola-Lakshmipur route this morning due to intense river current and erosion of Ilisha ferry point.
Piling system of the ferry point was totally damaged due to the rough weather.
All types of the vehicular movement on the route came to a halt as it was totally damaged due to the continuous erosion caused by the strong waves of the river Meghna, said Abu Alam, in-charge of the Bhola-Lakshmipur ferry service.
Bangladesh Water Development Board has already started working for building a new ferry point, he added.
