Police asked to publish ad on fugitives in Abrar murder case

A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered the police to publish an advertisement in two national dailies asking four fugitive accused of engineering student Abrar Fahad murder to appear before the court by January 13.

The accused are Mustafa Rafid, former deputy office secretary of BUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, and its members Morsheduzzaman Jishan, Ehtashamul Rabbi Tanim and Morshed Amartya Islam.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Md Kaisarul Islam passed the order following a warrant of proclamation and attachment is sued earlier on December 5.

The other 21 accused in the charge-sheet are now in jail.

On October 7, 2019, Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of electrical and electronics engineering department at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, was beaten to death by a group of Chhatra League leaders and activists at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall.

On November 13, Detective Branch inspector Mohammad Wahiduzaman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.

Of the 25 accused in the charge-sheet, 17 are members of the BUET unit Chhatra League. The university has already expelled 26 students including all the accused over the gruesome murder on the campus.
