Government hides info on Khaleda’s illness: BNP
Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday alleged that the government was concealing information about the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s illness.
The party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the allegation at a press conference at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka.
‘Khaleda Zia, being a victim of an individual’s vengeance, remained detained when she is seriously ill. The information of her serious illness is now being concealed at the influence of the government. She is not given opportunity to take proper treatment. She cannot move on her own now because of not getting proper treatment,’ he said.
He alleged that the prime minister had destroyed all the democratic institutions. She is now controlling the law, court, police and administration, he said.
Khaleda is in jail since February 28, 2018, the day when she was convicted in a graft case which the BNP terms false and fabricated. She was shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on April 1, 2019 and was now undergoing treatment there.
Rizvi criticised the Election Commission for their decision to use electronic voting machines in the upcoming Dhaka city polls and branded EVMs ‘a machine for digital rigging’ in voting process.
He asked the commission to cancel the decision. Otherwise, the election commissioners should resign, he said.
BNP vice-chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhuray and joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, among others, were present at the press conference.
