HC order on Dhaka city polls today
The High Court Division is due to deliver its order today on the writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Ashoke Kumar Ghosh seeking shifting the mayoral polls in Dhaka North City and Dhaka South City from January 30.
The petitioner prayed to reschedule the polls as the Hindu community would celebrate their two-day Saraswati Puja on January 29 and 30.
He submitted that school authorities were not allowing the Hindu community to set up puja mandaps due to the polls set for January 30.
Election Commission’s lawyer Tawhidul Islam opposed the prayer saying that the elections cannot be shifted as it could make holding the SSC and the HSC exams impossible in February and March.
