Ukrainian filmmaker gets 20-year prison term in Russian military court

A military court in Russia sentenced a Ukrainian film director Tuesday to 20 years in prison for what the court said was terrorism.

Oleg Sentsov had been held since late July on a variety of charges including terrorism, arms trafficking and organization of a terror group. He's most noted for his 2011 film "Gamer," about a young Ukrainian boy who spent his time playing video games, trying to escape reality.

Much of the European movie-making community had put its support behind Sentsov and decried his arrest, according to Amnesty International.

Another Ukrainian man accused of terror charges, Aleksandr Kolchenko, was sentenced to 10 years.

The men were accused of arson attacks on pro-Russian groups after Russia's occupation of Ukraine's semiautonomous Crimean Peninsula last year, Amnesty said.

Both men have continually affirmed their innocence.
