Growth benefits to reach grassroots: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said that the government was working to ensure that the benefits of growth of gross domestic product reach the grassroots people.
Sheikh Hasina, also president of ruling Awami League, came up with the remark in her introductory speech of the party’s joint meeting at her Tungipara home in Gopalganj.
‘To make Bangladesh free from hunger and poverty, every member of the Awami League has to be a model activist of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,’ she said.
Hasina said several members of the recently elected central committee were unable to come to Tungipara because of their involvement with the elections to two Dhaka city corporations.
She said that she would again come to Tungipara with those leaders.
Earlier, the newly-elected AL central working committee and advisory council led by Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
They paid the homage by placing wreaths at the grave of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Hasina first laid a wreath at the grave. She stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Later, Sheikh Hasina along with members of the AL central working committee and advisory council placed another wreath at the grave.
They said prayers and joined a munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Secretaries concerned and special assistants to the prime minister were present on the occasion.
Sheikh Hasina was re-elected as the president of Awami League for the ninth consecutive term, while Obaidul Quader was re-elected as the general secretary for the second straight time in the 21st national council session held on December 20 and 21, 2019.
