Khaleda’s arthritis not improved as expected: BSMMU
The arthritis of imprisoned opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University is not improving as expected, the university authorities said in a press release on Sunday.
The release signed by BSMMU director (hospital) Brigediar General AK Mahbubul Hoque said that her arthritis was not improved expectedly as she was not giving consent to take modern treatment in spite of the physicians’ repeated requests to her.
The BSMMU statement about Khaleda’s health came two days after her family met her and complained that the treatment the former prime minister was getting was not proper as she was groaning in pain and her diabetes was uncontrolled.
It said that Khaleda, admitted to the hospital on April 1, 2019, was under treatment under a board of seven-member specialist doctors who are famous in their respective fields.
The statement on Khaleda’s health condition said that she was admitted to the hospital with different diseases including uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, pain in teeth and cough variant asthma.
In past 10 months’ treatment, it said, some problems improved as expected while some other problems remained stable.
Khaleda’s pain in teeth had recovered, diabetes is under control and physical weakness has improved, the release said.
It said that diabetes, arthritis, hypertension and some problems related to old age were not fully curable. Physicians try to keep such patients better by controlling the problems through better and modern treatment, it added.
‘The medical board formed for Khaleda Zia’s proper treatment has been doing the job with maximum sincerity,’ the release said.
