CAA, NRC in India Bangladesh closely monitors developments: minister

Bangladesh is closely monitoring the developments in India following the enactment of the Citizen Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan told the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday.

Replaying to Awami League MP Asim Kumar Ukil’s question whether enactment of such laws in India would leave any impact on Bangladesh, the minister said that measures would be taken as per the international laws and border laws, if required.

The Border Guard of Bangladesh increased patrol and monitoring along the borders with India and is collecting intelligence information to prevent any illegal entrance into Bangladesh, he said.

BGB has also recently introduced surveillance system on 86 kilometer stretches of sensitive areas along the borders with Myanmar and India. Seven kilometres of such area is in Jashore and 79 kilometres in Cox’s Bazar, he said.

Moreover, the government was working to sensitise the locals for preventing any illegal entry through the borders, the minister said.

Asaduzzaman also said that both CAA and NRC were internal issues of India and those were facing huge criticism in that country.

‘We believe that India will pay full attention to its bilateral relation with Bangladesh while executing its internal political decision,’ he said.
