DHAKA CITY POLLS AL, BNP trade blame over code violation
Ruling Awami League mayoral candidates for two Dhaka city corporations on Tuesday asked the law enforcement agencies to take stern steps against troublemakers and those trying to create controversy in the peaceful campaigns through violence.
They also assured that, if elected, they would continue development activities in the city.
Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party mayoral candidates, on the other hand, said that massive public support was created for BNP’s electoral symbol sheaf of paddy and asked the city dwellers to go to polling centres to cast votes for them and to resist vote stealing.
Awami League mayoral candidate for Dhaka south city corporation Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, while addressing elections campaign at the capital’s Rajarbagh area around noon, called on the law enforcers to take stern steps against trouble makers and against those who were trying to create controversy in the peaceful campaigns through violence.
‘We want that the scheduled Dhaka city elections will be held in peaceful atmosphere and none will be able to cause hamper to it,’ he said asking the Election Commission and the law enforcers to take steps against the miscreants to maintain the atmospheres of the peaceful elections.
BNP mayoral candidate for Dhaka south city corporation Ishraque Hossain announced his election manifesto at National Press Club in the city and pledged for making Dhaka city livable and smart.
BNP’s mayoral candidate for Dhaka north city, while addressing roadside rallies during campaigns at Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas, said that mass wave was created for BNP and urged the city dwellers to go to polling centres to vote for BNP to bring democracy and people’s rights back and to resist vote stealing.
He suspected that the government might try to frighten the city dwellers and spread rumours. He asked city dwellers to go to polling centres without paying heed to any rumour.
He said that if the law enforcement agencies did their jobs neutrally, it was not possible to oust any polling agent from the centres.
Mentioning that 104 allegations were submitted to the Election Commission, he said that the commission had disposed of 102 allegations without taking any steps. ‘As a result, our fear regarding the election would increase.’
AL candidate for Dhaka north city corporation Atiqul Islam, while exchanging views with journalists at the National Press Club, assured city dwellers to continue development activities to make a beautiful, healthy, active, movable and modern Dhaka.
