CEC faces fingerprint mismatch

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Saturday cast his votes with assistance from a presiding officer as his fingerprint did not match with the preserved server data of the Election Commission.

The CEC experienced the mismatch while he went to IES School and College polling station at sector 5 around 11:00am in Uttara to cast his vote through the Electronic Voting Machine as a voter of Dhaka north city mayoral polls on Saturday.

After completing all the procedure, the CEC put his finger over the finger print module of EVM. But there was a mismatch, said assistant presiding officer Siddika Bulbil.

She said that later they cast the CEC’s vote using his National Identity Card number.

Latter, the CEC told reporters that there was three to four ways of casting votes through EVMs.

He said that he used an alternative way after there was a fingerprint mismatch.

Several presiding officers told New Age that they experienced many such cases of mismatch.

They said that most of the cases of mismatch involved voters aged above 50 years.

They used hand wash, glycerin and vaseline to clear the fingers to ensure match with the preserved data.

Several common voters complained that they were not allowed to cast votes allegedly due to mismatch of finger prints.
