Many BNP leaders hold more than one post
Many leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s 386-member national executive committee, 19-member national standing committee and 36-member party chairperson’s advisory council are holding posts in different tiers and fronts of the party.
Intra-party feuds over leadership may be reduced by 50 per cent if the party central leaders give up their posts in the committees of other units and front organisations, party leaders said.
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon said that he personally believed that an individual should not hold posts in the committees of different tiers and fronts.
If an individual, who holds posts in central committee and city, district or upazila committees, is detained, sick or unable to carry out the organisational duties, party activities there would be hampered, he explained.
Acting BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is also now the presidents of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, farmer front of the party, and Thakurgaon district BNP.
Section 11(e) of the party constitution, however, stipulates that to ‘discourage any one from the holding of the post of president or secretary at different stages of the party,’ is a duty of the national executive committee.
Standing committee member Mirza Abbas has been appointed the Dhaka city BNP convener, while vice-chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury is also the Patuakhali district unit president.
Chairperson’s advisers Abdul Awal Mintoo is also Dhaka city unit joint convener, Ahmed Azam Khan is the Tangail district unit president, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku is the Sirajganj district unit president, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is the Chittagong city unit president, Shahjahan Omar is the Jhalakati district unit president and Shamsuzzman Dudu is Krishak Dal general secretary.
BNP joint secretaries general Amanullah Aman is Dhaka district unit general secretary, Mizanur Rahman Minu is Rajshahi city unit president and Mohammad Shahjahan is Noakhali district unit president.
BNP organising secretaries Fazlul Huq Milon, Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, Masiur Rahman and Asadul Habib Dulu are also presidents of Gazipur, Barishal city, Jhenaidah and Lalmonirhat district units respectively.
Swechchhasebak affairs secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel is also the president of Jatiyatabadi Swechhasebak Dal, volunteer front of BNP, and member secretary of Dhaka city BNP.
BNP women affairs secretary Khaleda Rabbani is Moulivibazar district BNP general secretary, while assistant women affairs secretaries Noor-e-Ara-Safa and Shirin Sultana are Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal president and general secretary respectively.
Education affairs secretary Khairul Kabir Khokon is Narsingdhi district unit president, Swanirvar affairs secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu is Natore district unit president, special secretary Nadim Mostofa is Rajshahi district president, social welfare secretary Abul Khair Bhuiyan is Lakhshipur district president, relief and rehabilitation affairs secretary Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi is Kushtia district president, Industry affairs secretary AKM Mosharraf Hossain is Mymensingh district (south) president and training affairs secretary Kabir Murad is Magura district unit president.
BNP joint secretary general M Shahjahan said that the party should follow ‘one man one post’ policy.
BNP is a large party having many capable and efficient leaders and they may be accommodated if an individual does not hold posts at different tiers, he said.
He, however, said that he was holding the post of president in Noakhali district unit for practical reason.
BNP standing committee member Mahbubur Rahman said that he was in favour of ‘one man one post’ policy.
Another standing committee member said that it would not be practical to go for ‘one man one post policy’ absolutely as organisation would be affected both at central and filed levels in many cases.
