Security, order in capital must for rule of law: HM

The home minister Asaduzzaman Khan said Saturday that if the government could ensure security by controlling the law and order in the capital Dhaka, the country would also remain in a state of lawfulness.

‘So, Dhaka remains our focus,’ the minister told a reception hosted by Dhaka Metropolitan Police to celebrate its 45th raising day amid festivity in the capital’s Rajarbagh Police Lines.

He said that all kinds of conspiracies were being hatched to make the country incline towards terrorism. ‘But,’ he said ‘We became successful,’ referring to the fight against terrorism.

The minister also claimed that the police now became a force working for the people.

Addressing the programme, the inspector general of police, Mohammad Javed Patwary, said that the law enforcement agencies were the mirror of the government and the police stations should earn the trust of the people.

‘Make the police stations the places of trust and confidence. We have already circulated crucial instructions to this end,’ the police chief said.

He also said that the Dhaka traffic congestion was another big challenge for the police.

In his speech, the DMP commissioner, Shafiqul Islam, said they wanted to make all the 50 police stations the centre of people’s trust.

‘We are now monitoring the service recipients by calling them over phone,’ he said, adding that the digitalisation processes of the police stations were on to bring transparency.

The public security division secretary to the home ministry Mostafa Kamal was present as guest of honour while retired police officials attending.

A colourful procession was taken out from the DMP headquarters, which ended at Rajarbagh Police Lines after parading through the main streets. Police personnel of all ranks of DMP participated in the event.
