Mohiuddin, Rezaul AL candidate for Dhaka-10, Ctg city polls
The Awami League on Saturday selected former Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin to contest in the forthcoming by-polls to Dhaka-10 constituency.
On the other hand, the party selected Chattogram AL leader Rezaul Karim Chowdhury to contest in upcoming Chattogram city polls, said AL secretary general Obaidul Quader.
He said that the party’s nomination board made the decision at a meeting headed by AL president Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban.
The party also decided to nominate Shahadara Mannan for contesting for Bogura-1, Amirul Alam Milon for Bagerhat-4, Shahin Chaklader for Jashore-6 and Umme Kulsum for Gaibandha-3 by-elections.
On February 5, the Election Commission announced the schedule for by-elections to Dhaka-10, Jashore-6 and Gaibandha-3 constituencies fixing March 21 as the polling date.
Dhaka-10 constituency fell vacant after Awami League member of parliament Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh resigned on December 29 to contest in the Dhaka South City Corporation election.
Gaibandha-3 constituency fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP M Yunus Ali Sarker on December 27.
Bagerhat-4 constituency became vacant following the death of Awami League MP Mozammel Hossain on January 10.
Bogura-1 constituency fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP Abdul Mannan on January 18.
