CHAWK BAZAR TRAGEDY 3 deceased victims still unidentified

Three people who died in the Chawk Bazar inferno remained unidentified as one year have elapsed after the devastating fire.

Officials said that the three deceased among the 67 died in the fire could not be identified as none provided DNA samples for them.

The forensic department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital said on Wednesday the autopsy reports of the 67 people were finalised and the report will be provided to the Criminal Investigation Department of police.

‘We have finalised the autopsy report of all the 67 and the report will be handed over to the CID soon’, said Sohel Mahmud, assistant professor of forensic department at Dhaka Medical College.

He told reporters at his office that among the 67 deceased people, 45 were identified primarily after the fire incident.

After the DNA profiling, 19 of the rest 22 were identified and three people could not be identified yet.

Sohel said that the relatives of the victims did not provide DNA samples, because of which the three could not be identified yet.

The massive fire at Churihhatta of Chawk Bazar, reportedly killed at least 70 people, injured scores others and reduced four buildings to ashes and heavily damaged three other buildings on February 20.

The devastating fire broke out at Chawk Bazar nine years after deadly fire at Nimtali, both in densely populated Old Dhaka.
