Photo exhibitions against border killing begins at DU

A two-day photo exhibition began on Friday at anti-terrorism Raju memorial monument on the Dhaka University campus protesting against killing of Bangladeshis along borders.

Kanta-tar, a magazine, organised the exhibition remembering Felani Khatun who was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force while crossing the India-Bangladesh border on January 7, 2011 and marking the International Women’s Day to be observed on March 8.

A collection of photographs by Parvez Ahmed Roni are on display at the exhibition, said Mahfuj Abdullah, one of the organisers of the exhibition.

Mahfuj said that they also extended their support to Dhaka University student Nasir Abdullah who continued sit-in for the forty second consecutive day at Raju memorial sculpture protesting against killing of Bangladeshis along borders.

Nasir, a marketing department student who began the sit-in at Raju sculpture on January 25, said that he would continue the sit in until the government pressurises their Indian counterpart to stop the killings immediately.

At least 15 Bangladeshis were killed on the border by the Indian Border Security Force personnel in January, according to the media reports.
