Khaleda release JCD submits memo to president

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Dhaka University chapter on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the chancellor of the university president Abdul Hamid through the university vice-chancellor demanding release of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

Leaders and activists of the BNP’s student wing handed over the memorandum to DU VC Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman at his office Sunday noon.

In the memorandum, they expressed concern over Khaleda Zia’s health and said that she needed to be freed urgently on humanitarian ground.

They further said that their party chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s health had deteriorated and her family had made an appeal to send her abroad for advanced treatment.

They alleged that Khaleda, now under treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, was denied advanced treatment, which they said was unfortunate.

Later, they brought out a protest procession which paraded several streets on the campus.

Khaleda has been in jail since February 8, 2018, the day she was convicted by a special court in Dhaka in a graft case which the BNP termed false and fabricated.
