Rain leaves city-dwellers in pain for second consecutive day
People in the capital city suffered for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as many parts of the city submerged from irregular rain from morning till noon.
Besides, the people had to endure filth and garbage on the roads as Tuesday’s water receded, confirmed dwellers from different corners of the city.
Office goers in the morning said that they faced scarcity of public transport as many parts of the city witnessed traffic jam in the morning amid rain and water-clogging.
Like Tuesday, the rickshaw pullers and CNG-run auto rickshaws charged extra fare taking advantage of scarcity and people’s desperation.
The roads in Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Lalmatia, Dhanmondi, Karwanbazar, Kakrail, Shanitanagar, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Rampura, Dayaganj, Dholaikhal and Badda areas went under knee-deep water in the morning due to the rain.
Vehicles at these places moved at snail’s pace till noon, but traffic eased in the afternoon, city dwellers said.
Bangladesh Metrological Department recorded 57 mm of rainfall in the city in past 24 hours ending Wednesday 6pm.
Shopkeepers at different shopping malls and shopping centers said they saw a lower number of clients on the day. ‘We passed a very dull day today,’ Md Mizanur Rahman of Mouchak market said.
Besides, many students could not attend their schools as they faced trouble in managing vehicles on water-clogged roads in the morning, resulting in low presence in the schools.
