Wipe out weeds from cabinet: BNP
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday urged prime minister Sheikh Hasina to root out weeds and parasites from Awami League and her cabinet.
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon at briefing at the party’s central office made the statement welcoming the prime minister’s
recent speech and initiative to root out weeds from Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League-backed student body.
He said that not only Chhatra League, but Juba League, Swechchhasebok League and Awami League and the cabinet also should be purged of weeds and parasites.
He said that had the prime minister taken the move earlier, people’s sufferings would not have increased, anarchy would not have been created in the country and the public servants would have been spared from assaulting.
The briefing was arranged to protest at the filing of ‘false’ cases against BNP swanirvar affairs secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu, also president of Natore district unit, and over 100 leaders and activists of the district.
Ripon alleged that ‘false’ cases were filed against Ruhul Quddus and others over the incident of ruling party infighting aiming at ousting BNP leaders and activists from the area.
Ripon demanded immediate withdrawal of the cases.
Replying to a query, Ripon criticised two Dhaka city mayors for their failure in resolving problem of water logging in the capital.
Ripon suggested the two mayors to come up with tins to remove logged water.
BNP leaders Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Abdus Salam Azad, Natore district BNP general secretary Aminul Huq, organising secretary Kazi Shah Alam and municipal mayor Sheikh Emdadul Huq, among others, were present.
