Missing journalist Shafiqul found at Benapole
Missing journalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol was traced at Benapole border early Sunday.
Kajol’s son Monorom Palak said that he had talked to his father through the mobile of police personnel of Benapole police station. ‘He said that he is well,’ said Monorom.
Police said that Border Guard Bangladesh personnel took the man to them and they later came to know that he was missing journalist Shafiqul.
Habilder Ashekh Ali, commander of Raghunathpur BGB Camp, said that a patrol team rescued Shafiqul from a field in the area at night and handed him over to police, adds United News of Bangladesh.
Mamun Khan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said Shafiqul talked to his son, Monorom Palak, around 3:00am over phone.
His family members are on the way to Benapole from Dhaka to receive him, the OC added.
Kajol, editor of Dainik Pokkhokal, was last seen in front of his office at Hatirpool in Dhaka at about 7:00pm on March 10.
He went missing after former lawmaker and Awami League leader Saifuzzaman Shikhor filed a case under Digital Security Act against Shafiqul and 31 others including Manabzamin editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury.
The police registered a complaint from Shafiqul’s family on March 11 regarding his missing and filed case over the incident on March 18.
On March 21, Amnesty International shared CCTV footage and said unidentified people approached journalist Shafiqul’s motorbike and appear to tamper with it, the day he was last seen before his feared disappearance.
