National Economic Council likely to finalise new ADP today

A meeting of the National Economic Council is scheduled to be held today for reviewing a proposal on the annual development programme for 2020-21 by the planning commission.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting from her office through a video link because of the ongoing coronavirus situation.

Other ministry officials, including those from the planning commission, would attend the meeting, said a notice from the planning minister’s office on Monday.

Meanwhile, president  Md Abdul Hamid convened the Budget Session of the 11th Parliament for June 10 at 5:00pm, said a release of the parliament secretariat issued on Monday.

Planning minister MA Mannan, who is also scheduled to hold the conventional ADP press briefing after the NEC meeting, asked his ministry officials to ensure a thin presence of newsmen.

Last Tuesday, the planning ministry in a meeting finalised the 2020-21 ADP with the provisional estimate of Tk 2,05,145 crore.

MA Mannan, who presided over the meeting, said that emphasis was put on health, agriculture, social safety net and employment generation in the new ADP.
