Arrested police ASI tests positive for COVID-19
A recently detained police sub-inspector was tested positive for COVID-19 in Khulna District Jail.
‘On Friday we have found positive report of Armed Police Battalion assistant sub-inspector Mahmud Hasan who came to Khulna from his office in Dhaka and surrendered before the Phultola police on Wednesday in a pornography case filed by his wife,’ Khulna jail superintendent Omar Faruk told New Age on Saturday.
He said that police collected ASI Mahmud’s sample as he was coughing.
He said that ASI Mahmud was quarantined in a ward along with 35 inmates after he was sent to the jail by the court on Wednesday.
Meanwhile four more prison guards of Narayanganj District Jail tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, said the jail superintendent.
He said that a total of 22 prison guards of the jail were so far tested for Coronavirus.
A total of 51 people mostly prison guards of different jails were tested for a COVID-19 and 276 others mostly prisoners were quarantined in the jails, according to the directorate of the prisons.
Only 12 prison guards recovered from the coronavirus.
Earlier two prisoners one in Sylhet and another in Kashimpur, died with COVID-19 symptoms. The Sylhet prisoner tested positive for coronavirus while the test result of the Kashimpur prisoner remained pending.
A Panchagarh prisoner was undergoing treatment after he tested positive for coronavirus while a Dhaka Central Jail prisoner was recently released from a coronavirus hospital in the capital.
A hospitalised prisoner of Dhaka jail first tested positive for coronavirus and later 22 prison guards of the jail tested positive for the virus.
