Khaleda urges everyone to stay home
Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia urged the countrymen to stay at home following the World Health Organisation guidelines to contain COVID-19 pandemic.
She also greeted them on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir conveyed the party chief’s messages to the people after meeting her at her Gulshan residence on Monday evening.
Fakhrul along with other standing committee members of the party met Khaleda Zia between 7:30pm and 9:00pm.
This was the first meeting between Khaleda and the party standing committee members after she was freed from jail following the government’s executive order to suspend her conviction for six months in two graft cases that BNP terms false and fabricated.
Fakhrul said that Khaleda urged the party leaders and activists to tackle the situation by following all the health rules during this pandemic.
‘She expressed her satisfaction that BNP leaders and activists have stood by the affected people amid this adverse situation. She repeatedly has urged the party leaders and activists to stand strictly without losing courage,’ Fakhrul said.
Fakhrul said that they met Khaleda Zia wearing personal protection equipments— PPE, face masks, hand gloves and maintaining social distance.
Fakhrul said that there was almost no improvement of Khaleda Zia’s health but she was better mentally.
BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku met the BNP chairperson.
Earlier in the morning, the BNP secretary general along with other standing committee members offered prayers at the grave of the party founder and late president Ziaur Rahman in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area after saying Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.
