BCSIR gives 5,000 VTM kits to DGHS
Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research sent 5,000 viral transport medium kits to the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday.
The kits were sent to additional director general of health services Dr Nasima Sultana as per the directive of the science and technology minister.
The VTM — a solution of salt, protein and antibiotics — is used in collecting samples from the suspected COVID-19 patients.
These kits were developed locally at the laboratory of Designated Reference Institute for Chemical Measurements, a sister institution of the BCSIR under the Science and Technology Ministry.
There are specific guidelines on how to develop the kits from World Health Organisation and the Centre for Disease Control.
