General holiday announced in coronavirus red, yellow zones

The government on Monday announced a fresh general holiday for 15 days in areas marked as red and yellow zones in a bid to arrest the spread of novel coronavirus.

The National Technical Advisory Committee for fighting COVID-19 earlier on Sunday recommended 64 areas, including 45 in the capital Dhaka, to mark as red zones.

The cabinet division in a circular on Monday extended ongoing countryside restrictions from June 16 to 30.

The order stated that all offices, including government and autonomous bodies, in areas marked as red and yellow zones would come under general holiday.

People living on those areas will also come under general holiday.

The cabinet division asked the public administration ministry to take necessary measures in this regard.

Areas marked as red zone in Dhaka North city are — Badda, Cantonment, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Rampura, Aftabnagar, Banasri, Mohammadpur, Kalyanpur, Maghbazar, Airport, Rajabazar, Uttara and Mirpur, Gulshan-1 and Gulshan-2

The 28 areas recommended as red zone in  Dhaka South city are — Jatrabari, Demra, Mugda, Genderia, Lalbagh, Azimpur, Dhanmondi, Jigatola, Basabo, Shantinagar, Paltan, Ramna, Sutrapur, Malibagh, Katwali, Tikatuli, Mitford, Kalabagan, Shahjahanpur, Matijheel, Wari, Khilgaon, Paribagh, Kadamtali, Shiddheswari, Lakshmibazar, Elephant Road and Segunbagichato.

The committee also recommended putting 10 areas in Chattogram, 4 in Narayanganj and 5 in Gazipur on lockdown considering those as hotspots with greater number of detected COVID-19 patients.
