MP Shahid makes 2 million dinars net profit
The annual net profit of Bangladesh independent lawmaker Mohammad Shahid Islam in Kuwait was estimated at two million dinars annually.
The Kuwait prosecution assessed the profit after deducting all the expenses including money spent in forms of bribes and gifts in exchange for facilitating his work by bringing in labour from Bangladesh, according to Arab Times.
One Kuwaiti dinar equals to 277 Bangladeshi takas.
Shahid Islam, who was arrested by the Kuwait authorities on June 7 on charges including human trafficking and bribing senior Kuwaiti officials, kept 9,000 cleaners under 34 contracts with different departments of the country.
The public prosecutors have also started interrogating three Kuwaiti officials, including two directors of the manpower authority and an officer of a rank of colonel in the interior ministry, as accused of receiving bribe from the Bangladeshi MP.
The Kuwaiti authorities launched the investigations after getting information that Shahid Islam brought into thousands of workers from Bangladesh and took huge sums of money from them as ‘service charges’.
