14 dead as launch with 50 passengers capsizes in Buriganga

At least 14 people died as a passenger launch with around 50 passengers sank in the river Buriganga near Farashganj area of Dhaka on Monday morning.

River police control room duty officer sub-inspector Mohammad Nizam Uddin told New Age at 11:40am that so far total 14 bodies have been recovered from the river.

Fire Service duty official Mohammad Shahadat said that the launch Morning Bird of Dhaka- Munshiganj route sank after it was hit by another launch Mayuri 2.

The official could not confirm immediately how many passengers went missing.
