Amu made coordinator of AL-led 14-party alliance

Ruling Awami League presidium member Amir Hossain Amu has been made coordinator and spokesperson of AL-led 14-party alliance.

AL general secretary Obaidul Quader revealed the information through a virtual media briefing at his official residence in the capital on Wednesday.

He said that AL president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina took the decision after having discussions with the alliance partners.

The post of 14-party spokesperson falls vacant following the death of AL presidium member Mohammed Nasim while its coordinator Sajeda Chowdhuray is inactive in politics as she is suffering from different old-age complications.

The AL-led 14-party alliance started its journey on November 25, 2004.

Workers Party of Bangladesh, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesh Jasad, Samyabadi Dal, Ganatantri Party, Communist Kendra, Gano Azadi League, Ganatantrik Mazdoor Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-faction, Jatiya Party-JP, and Bangladesh Tarikat Federation are the members of the alliance.

On June 13, 2020, former health minister Mohammed Nasim died at a Dhaka hospital. He was 72.

Nasim was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital with COVID-19 on June 1. Later he suffered from a brain haemorrhage and he had a neurosurgery on June 5.
