Hasina, Imran talk on regional situation

Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan on Wednesday phoned prime minister Sheikh Hasina and the two leaders spoke on issues ranging from COVID-19 pandemic, flood in Bangladesh, bilateral relations and strengthening South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.

‘The Pakistan prime minister phoned prime minister Sheikh Hasina at about 1:00pm and wanted to know from her about the coronavirus situation in Bangladesh and how her government is combating the deadly disease,’ prime minister’s press secretary Ihasanul Karim said.

The Bangladesh PM appraised Imran Khan in detail of the steps the government has taken for the treatment of the patients and to contain the transmission of the disease in their 15 minute telephonic conversation, according to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

Sheikh Hasina also informed her Pakistan counterpart about the current flood situation in Bangladesh when he inquired about it.

Imran Khan also underscored the importance Pakistan attaches to closer ties with Bangladesh and highlighted the significance of regular bilateral contacts and people-to-people exchanges, Pakistan high commission in Dhaka said in a press release.

He expressed Pakistan’s commitment to SAARC and underlined the importance on the both countries working for enhancing regional cooperation for sustainable peace and prosperity.

He also stressed the importance of peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute for a safe and prosperous region.

The Bangladesh prime minister heard what Imran Khan said about bilateral relations, regional cooperation and Jammu and Kashmir issues, an official with knowledge of the matter said.
