160 complaints against Shahed in RAB hotline

Rapid Action Battalion received around 160 complaints in hotline services and e-mails in the last five days against Regent Hospital chairman Mohammad Shahed.

Shahed had embezzled around Tk12.5 crore from various individuals and organisations, RAB legal and media wing director Ashique Billah told New Age at RAB headquarter on Thursday evening.

He said that they received a total of 160 complaints, of which 21 were received via email and 139 received via phone call.

In addition, the RAB hadalso found a total of 48 regular cases against Shahed. The investigation officer will take cognisance of the cases if necessary, he added.

The hotline connection services has been stopped after 5 days but services through their e-mail ID will continue, the officer said, adding thatpeople from both the country or abroad could use the platform for complaining or getting advise.

Ashique said that RAB filed three cases after the drive at Regent Hospital. One of them was a fraudulent case filed against 17 including Shahed in Uttara police station where 11 of them were arrested so far including Shahed, managing director Masud Parvez, and Regent Group public relation officer Tarek Shibly.

The second case was filed under Anti-Terrorism Act in Debhata police station of Satkhira district after arresting Shahed with arms. Lastly, a case was filed under special power act for recovering counterfeit money.  

RAB was already investigating the fraud case filed in Uttara police station and investigate arms case in Debhata police station after approval from home ministry.

The other counterfeit money recovery case is being processed legally for handing over to RAB, said the official.

He said that Anti-Corruption Commission was working on the amount of his illicit wealth. Their search will reveal the real information.
