BGB, police on high alert at Benapole against rawhide smuggling

The authorities have put the Border Guard Bangladesh and the police on high alert along the border in Jashore against check rawhide smuggling.

Price of rawhide is very poor this year in Jashore, for which law enforcement agencies assume probable smuggling of rawhide after the Eid-ul-Azha.

Sirajul Islam, a rawhide trader, told New Age on Monday that every piece of rawhide of cow sold for Tk 200–500 and that of goat sold for Tk 20–30.

Border Guard 49 battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Selim Reza said that manpower the force was raised along the frontiers to check smuggling of rawhide.

Benapole port police station officer –in-charge Mamun Khan echoed Selim.
