19 Bangladesh Navy crew injured in Beirut explosions

At least 19 soldiers of Bangladesh Navy were injured as two explosions rocked the Lebanese capital port Beirut on Tuesday, according to Bangladesh embassy in Beirut.

‘The deadly explosions rocked Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Bijoy, which was anchored at the Beirut port. At least 19 crew of the ship were injured,’ Bangladesh embassy first secretary Abdullah Al Mamun told New Age on Tuesday night. 

One of the injured soldiers was in critical condition, five were moderately injured and 13 were released after primary treatment, he said. 

The ship was moderately damaged in the incident, he said. 

A Bangladesh embassy team rushed to the port immediately after the explosions and it was at the spot till filing of the report at about 2:00am Wednesday.

At least 30 people were dead and scores injured in the explosions shaking buildings and sending huge plumes of smoke billowing into the Beirut sky, according to international news agencies.   

Mamun said that windows of his residence were shattered although it was located at a place about five kilometres away from the port.  

Asked about the possibilities of injury of expatriate Bangladeshi workers, he said the embassy team were trying to contact the Bangladesh community people.
