Tarique receives Khaleda in London
Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia arrived in London on Wednesday morning when her elder son Tarique Rahman received her at Heathrow airport.
A large number of leaders and activists of BNP welcomed Khaleda at the airport, BNP chairperson’s press wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told New Age, quoting leaders of BNP UK chapter.
It was an emotional reunion of Khaleda with her son Tarique, also BNP senior-vice chairman. It was the first meeting between Khaleda and Tarique after the death of Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of Khaleda, in January this year.
Tarique drove her mother from the airport to a hotel in central London where Khaleda will be staying.
Leaders and activists of BNP greeted Khaleda lining up on both sides of the gate of the airport, chanting slogans.
Party sources said that Tarique, his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima would stay at Khaleda’s hotel during her visit to London.
Khaleda will take rest for a couple of days at her hotel before going for medical checkup and treatment, the sources said.
Last Khaleda had last met Tarique in Saudi Arabia during performing Umrah in July 2014.
Among others, BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintu, international affairs secretary Mahidur Rahman, human rights affairs secretary Nasiruddin Ahmed Osim, former assistant press secretary to former prime minister Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, UK BNP presdient MA Malek, and general secretary Koisar Ahmed, among others, were present at Heathrow airport to receive Khaleda.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Khaleda left Dhaka for London for treatment of her eyes and to meet family members.
Khaleda would celebrate Eid-ul-Azha in London, according to BNP sources.
Tarique Rahman has been staying in London since September 2008.
