Verdict in Rifat murder case on September 30
The verdict against 10 adults accused in the case filed over the murder of Rifat Sharif in Barguna will be pronounced on September 30.
Barguna District and Session’s Judge M Asaduzzaman fixed the date on Wednesday on completion of arguments from both sides, said district public prosecutor Bhuban Chandra Hawlader.
Hawlader said they had appealed to the court for the cancellation of bail of victim’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni but the court rejected the prayer.
The court gave Minni to the custody of her lawyer as she did not break any condition of her bail, said the prosecutor.
The High Court on August 29, 2019, granted bail to Minni on condition that she would remain in her father’s custody and refrain from talking to the media.
Rifat, 25, an internet service provider by profession, was hacked by some youths in front of Barguna Government College in broad daylight on June 26. Later that day, he died of his injuries at Barishal Medical College and Hospital.
The victim’s father filed the murder case with Barguna Sadar police station on the same day.
On September 2, 2019 investigation officer Md Humayun Kabir, an inspector at Barguna Sadar police station, filed two charge sheets with the Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in the Rifat Sharif murder case, accusing 24 people, including Rifat’s wife Minni.
Of the 24 accused, 10 were adults and the rest were minors.
Ten adults accused are Rakibul Hasan alias Rifat Faraji,23, Al Kaiyum alias Rabbi Akan, 21, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, 19, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy, alias Tiktok Hridoy, 22, Md Hasan, 19, Md Musa, 22, Ayesha Siddika Minni, 19, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, 20, Md Sagar, 19, and Kamrul Hasan Saymun, 21.
The main accused, Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon Bond, was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers on July 2 last year.
Among the accused named in the charge sheet, Minni is out on bail and Md Musa remained fugitive. The rests are in jail, said prosecutor Hawlader.
