Rifat murder death reference reaches High Court

The proceedings and verdict of Rifat murder case reached the High Court on Sunday to be examined by the court whether the the delivery of the verdict and sentencing of six people by the session court was correct.

The Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court on September 30 sentenced six people, including Ayesha Siddika Minni, to death in the murder case of her husband Rifat Sharif.

High Court Division’s Dispatch Section administrative officer KM Faruk Hossain received the death reference and sent it to the Death Reference Section for taking initiative for preparation of a paper-book before hearing of the case by the court.

The court official told New Age that the case documents contain 4,580 pages.

Minni’s lawyer ZI Khan Panna told New Age that 19-year-old Minni would appeal against the verdict to the upper court this week.

The court gave the death sentenced for murdering Rifat in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College on June 26, 2019.

The other convicts are Rakibul Hasan alias Rifat Faraji, 23, Al Kaiyum alias Rabbi Akan, 21, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, 19, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy, 22, and Md Hasan, 19.

The court fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each.
