Six more rapes in districts
At least six rape cases were lodged with six police stations in Lakshmipur, Gopalganj, Rangamati, Sylhet, Kushtia and Savar on Monday.
The incidents were reported amid protests across the country against continued rape and violence against women.
At Savar, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka, police on Monday arrested Sadiqur Rahman Selim, 45, at his house on WAPDA Road in the upazila town on charge of rape of a 24-year-old woman on several occasions in the past three months promising her a job, said Savar Police Station inspector (investigation) Saiful Islam.
He said that Sadiqur was arrested after the victim filed a case with the police station Monday morning.
New Age staff correspondent in Sylhet, quoting Kotwali police sub-inspector Rezaul Karim, reported that police arrested Sramik league activist Delwar Hossain, 40, of Shamimabad Area in the city, and his associate Harun Miah, 35, of the same area on Monday on charge of rape of a house wife, also mother of five, of the area Sunday evening, when her husband was not at home.
‘The victim filed a case against Harun, his two accomplices and two more unidentified people for assisting them with the Kotwali police on Monday morning,’ the police officer said.
In Rangamati, police arrested 85-year-old Harunur Rashid at Islampur of Nannerchar upazila in Rangamati on Monday morning, hours after he allegedly raped a physically-challenged girl at the upazila, United News of Bangladesh reported, quoting assistant superintendent of police Taposh Ranjan Ghosh.
The victim’s mother filed a case in this connection on Monday, the police officer.
New Age Islamic University correspondent in Kushtia, quoting Mirpur police station officer-in-charge Abul Kalam, reported that father of a teenage girl on Monday field a case with the police station accusing Sirajul Ulum Mariam Nesa Madrassah superintendent Abdul Quader, 42, of raping the girl twice on Sunday.
In Gopalganj, father of a Class IX girl on Monday lodged a case with Kotalipara police station alleging that Ali Hosain Hawlader of Purnabati village of the upazila raped his daughter after physical torture while Ali’s friend Masud Hawlader grabbed video of the incident on October 3, police said.
The police station inspector (investigation) Md Zakaria said that they were trying to nab the offenders.
New Age correspondent in Lakshmipur, quoting Ramgati Police Station officer-in-charge Md Soleman, reported that a widow field a case with the police station on Monday alleging that five people raped her entering into her bedroom Sunday night.
The police officer said that they arrested two of the accused, Jamal Hossain and Md Sohel, following the case.
