Myanmar BGP detains nine Bangladeshi fishermen from River Naff

Myanmar Border Guard Police detained nine Bangladeshi fishermen from the river Naff on Tuesday night.

The BGP also seized their fishing boat and fishing nets

Abdul Alim, acting officer-in-charge of the Teknaf police, told New Age that he was not officially informed about the incident, but he saw the news in an online news portal.

According to Sabrong union parishad member and owner of the boat Mohammad Nurul Ameen, Myanmar Border Guard Police-BGP held nine Bangladeshi fishermen and seized their boat from the river Naff on Tuesday night.

Nurul Ameen said that the boat broke down in the middle of the river and it was floating inside the Bangladesh territory.

At one stage, Myanmar BGP members detained the fishermen and seized the boat, he said, adding that the fishermen were kept at Ali Thanzo, BGP camp of Maungdaw township of Rakhine state in Myanmar.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan, commanding officer of Teknaf Border Guard Bangladesh battalion, told reporters that they would send a letter to the BGP in this regard and ask them to release the fishermen.
