Australia blocks Shakib’s Big Bash trip for moral turpitude
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan wanted to take part in the newest edition of the Australian Twenty20 competition Big Bash League but Cricket Australia shut the doors on him for his past charges of corruption, reports cricket website CricTracker.
Shakib’s one-year sanction from the ICC for not disclosing contacts with Indian bookmaker Deepak Agarwal ended in October 28 and the all-rounder is now free to take part in competitive cricket.
The 33-year old wanted to put his name for BBL 2020-21, scheduled to commence from December 10, but CA disallowed him from taking part as part of its zero tolerance against corruption in cricket.
Shakib remains the only cricketer from Bangladesh to play in BBL, previously playing for Adelaide Strikers in 2013-14 and for Melbourne Renegades in 2014-15.
Shakib was also reportedly offered to play for Multan Sultans in the play-off stage of the Pakistan Super League in place of COVID-19 infected Mahmudullah but couldn’t take part as his name was not in the players’ draft from the beginning.
Shakib is set to play for the Gemcon Khulna in the upcoming Bangabandhu Twenty20 Cup.
