A Bangladeshi construction was arrested in Singapore under Internal Security Act on November 2 for his alleged involvement in terrorism-related activities, reports Singapore-based news portal The Strait Times on Wednesday.
The arrested was identified as Ahmed Faysal, 26.
After preliminary investigations, the Internal Security Department found that ‘he was planning to carry out subversive activities’, the Ministry of Home Affairs said on Tuesday.
Faysal came to Singapore in February, 2017, to work for a building products company. His started believing the extremist propagandas in 2018 after he got introduced to pro-Islamic State audio-visual materials through internet, the ministry said.
He was using social media to propagate pro-ISIS messages, that featured the oppression of Muslims across the world, in order to promote violence, the ministry added.
The ministry also said that Faysal confessed to the authorities that he was planning to carry out attacks in Bangladesh.
Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam on Tuesday said that the Commercial Affairs Department was also investigating the incident for possible terrorism financing offences.
