BNP demands free COVID-19 vaccine for all
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday demanded that COVID-19 vaccines should be distributed free among the people and the Bangladesh Army should be assigned for the collection, preservation and distribution of vaccines.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a statement also said that the vaccine programme may be hampered if the health ministry was entrusted with doing the job.
He said that the people would face serious harassment in getting vaccines in time and mass corruptions would spoil the programme if the ministry, which had already been paralysed with anomalies and irregularities, would be in charge of the distribution.
The statement was issued following a meeting of the party’s standing committee meeting.
The committee expressed concern over the recent increase in COVID-19 infections and failure of the government to take any effective step to control the infection.
The meeting also said that the fire incidents in Dhaka city slums should be investigated properly.
It also demanded judiciary inquiry into the incidents and compensation for the victims.
Chaired by acting chairman of the party Tarique Rahman, the online meeting was attended by secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Khndaker Mosarraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sirkar, Mirza Abbus, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Mayeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.
