BBC BANGLADESH SANGLAP : Govt not always sensitive to citizen’s demands, says Shahriyar
State minister for foreign affairs Shahriyar Alam on Saturday said it was not always possible for the government to understand its citizens’ demands or interests.
He made the comment while answering to a question as to how much the existing trend in politics reflected the young generation’s thoughts and expectations.
He was addressing as a panel speaker the 130th episode of BBC Bangladesh Sanglap jointly organised by BBC Media Action and BBC Bangla at TCB auditorium at Karwanbazar in the capital.
In response to the same question, BNP international affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon said, ‘Our politicians lack in thoughts that can push the country forward and a growing negative impression of politicians is ominous.’
Shahana Siddiqui, co-founder of women-focused, women-led technology company ‘Maya’, said the young generation lacks in knowledge of their rights and responsibilities in politics while their interests in law and order and different types of healthcare services are not given due importance.’
She said teachers of the country were not attentive to the global trend of technology though they were attentive to consultancy.
Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies’ senior research fellow Nazneen Ahmed said education in the country lags far behind in quality.
Ripon said the teachers who were now in movement should be provided with a proper standard of living and, if otherwise, they would not come to this profession.
He said the government should give more importance to the technology sector and stop corruption and excessive expenditure in different sectors.
